A MEYER DAVIS PROJECT

OWLWOOD ESTATE

Designer & Project Lead

Originally designed in 1936 by renowned architect Robert D. Farquhar, Owlwood Estate stands as a testament to Italian Renaissance Revival architecture in Los Angeles. Nestled on 10 acres in the prestigious Holmby Hills neighborhood, the estate has been home to numerous celebrities, including Tony Curtis, Sonny and Cher, and Marilyn Monroe, who resided in the guesthouse during the mid-1940s.

Meyer Davis’s vision for Owlwood involved a thoughtful expansion and modernization that honored the estate’s storied past. Key elements of the design included a subterranean wellness center, an expanded guest wing seamlessly connected to the original structure via a glass and steel ‘gasket,’ and a pavilion extension inspired by the minimalist principles of Mies van der Rohe. These additions were conceived to blend harmoniously with the existing architecture, ensuring that the estate’s historical integrity remained intact while introducing contemporary luxury and functionality.
